900 Saint-Jacques
Montréal, QC
The 900 St-Jacques project explores how architecture can integrate a nuanced understanding of contemporary usage within the residential sector, while embodying a commitment to social and environmental responsibility. The sixty-three-story building will house a Moxy hotel by Marriott, a range of rental units, and social spaces designed to facilitate connections among residents. These spaces will include a terrace, a restaurant, as well as community and co-working areas.
The new residential tower embraces the complexity of Montreal’s identity with a mineral facade crafted from fine aggregate concrete panels, whose assembly evokes a woven tapestry. This exterior structure not only enhances the building’s energy efficiency during winter but also reconnects with the city’s characteristic urban fabric, reflecting the architectural heritage of Old Montreal, Place Ville-Marie, the Sun Life Building, and the Olympic Park. Located in the Quartier des Gares, the project contributes to the development of an area poised to become a vibrant urban hub.
Near La Gare Centrale, the REM transit network, metro lines, and bus routes, the building’s prime location opens up numerous opportunities for sustainable transportation. With a clear perspective on current mobility practices and their environmental impact, the project plans to incorporate a cyclist rest area, indoor and outdoor bike storage, electric vehicle charging stations, and designated spaces for car-sharing services.
