Plaza Saint-Hubert
Montreal, QC
The charm of Saint-Hubert Street lies in the unmistakable conviviality of its design. As a true open-air shopping district, Plaza Saint-Hubert offers a vibrant space to stroll, where shops, restaurants, and opportunities to daydream seamlessly come together.

The involvement of Chevalier Morales and Latéral was limited to the preconceptual study for the new canopy at Plaza Saint-Hubert, which included architectural design and structural engineering for the proposed structure in the preliminary stages. The original plans envisioned a lighter installation of triangle-shaped glass elements, supported by a steel and aluminum structure. This self-supporting structure aimed to visually lighten the commercial street by clearing the building facades, while also simplifying the maintenance of entrances and upper floors for the many shops. Aside from the angle of the horizontal structure, which was initially planned to be more pronounced, the new canopy retains the elegance and character of the original design.
The project to renovate the Plaza canopy took shape in 2020, born from the City of Montreal’s desire to revitalize the iconic commercial artery of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie. Inaugurated in 1984, the previous structure had become outdated, raising both aesthetic and safety concerns. Now revitalized, the Plaza Is now an integral part of the contemporary Montreal landscape, showcasing the unique local businesses and the diverse cultures that flourish there.
