La Fabrique de théâtre insolite
Trois-Rivières, QC

The puppetry and object theatre company Les Sages Fous specializes in innovative theatrical forms and plays a significant role in the cultural landscape of Trois-Rivières. In quest of a workspace that would inspire their poetic creativity, the troupe set out to transform the Saint-James Church into their artistic home. This distinctive venue in Quebec, dedicated to puppetry and fantasy, is deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of Trois-Rivières, illuminating the boldness of imagination.

The project embodies a collective commitment to supporting local cultural initiatives and revealing the uniqueness of local ideas. The renovation of Saint-James Church and its presbytery has created a professional space for creation, production, and performance for Les Sages Fous while restoring and preserving the historic monument. Audiences are invited to rediscover Quebec heritage through an immersive experience with extraordinary performances.

Previously, Les Sages Fous occupied the St. James Church compound, a designated heritage site, but the space lacked the necessary adaptations for their specific technical and artistic needs. The church, presbytery, parish hall, and outdoor areas were adapted to support the theatre company's activities, ensuring a sustainable presence on stage year-round.

Additionally, a residency space welcomes artists and companies from abroad, fostering an evolving dialogue about contemporary theatrical practices among locals and guests.
